We are victims. Victims of bears. That's all you really need to know about us. We knew about how evil and godless bears were since we religiously watch The Colbert Report and have heard Dr. Steven Colbert's many reports of the horrific deads that bears across North America have perpetrated. It doesn't take a Ph.D. to realize that every one of these bears are all psychpaths in the animal kingdom (although we do both have Ph.D.s). We were visiting Vancouver (it's in Canada) and there were bears all over the city (we have documented this in the Horror Gallery). We even found a bear at the airport. The Canadians are completely callous about bears. While visiting one of their so-called national parks, we came across this large billboard with bears threatening each and every visitor (see below). "We're waiting for you" the bear duo were screaming at every motorist. It was sickening. The gallery contains photos of bears we encountered and several photos where Cathy was able to extract a little revenge. She's a true hero!

I'm Curt Burgess. The idea for this site occurred to me after I took the second photo of my wife, Cathy, getting mauled by one of those horrible bears in Vancouver. A day I wont forget - July 30 at 3:32 pm. It's etched in my memory. Mostly because I saw the info on the image file in photoshop. At any rate, this happened while I wasn't going to talks at the Cognitive Science Society Conference (I hope my students don't see this). I took a couple hours on the plane on the way back to see if our cat had survived our absense to throw together these web pages. That's why they're not very good. I don't mean to make excuses - they wouldn't have been very good had I spent more time on them.
Cathy took this photo. I was sipping a Smith & Kerns at Character's Taverna in Vancouver. We drank many of these drinks to try and forget the bear encounters (better living through chemistry, I always say). We became good friends with the owner of the place after awhile.

Cathy will fill this space with some words later when she recovers from her trauma.
